Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and degenerative illness of the brain where certain cells die and are not replaced the  result of which affects a person's memory, ability to reason, and behavior.

It is estimated that Alzheimer's disease affects about 4 million North Americans and about 65,000 in Puerto Rico.  It is the fourth cause of death among adults in the United States . In spite of the fact that this illness for the most part affects people over 60, lately it has been noted to have increased in patients between 40 and 50 years of age.

They have not yet been able to identify a cause for Alzheimer's, nor does a cure exist for this illness, but a lot can be done for the patient and his family when the disease is diagnosed early.

Other types of dementias have similar symptoms. If you or any your loved ones experience any of these symptoms, it is highly recommended that you consult with your physician. Don't forget that an early diagnosis will permit you to understand what is happening and you will be able to look for professional help on time.

Our Association opens its doors to all people who are motivated to help serve and contribute according to their capacity, time and desire to participate permits.
